Abstract Pseudo-random signal has been widely used in seismic exploration because of its excellent auto-correlation. This paper has deeply studied the important parameters related to the auto-correlation function of pseudo-random signal with the purpose of improving auto-correlation function properties of the pseudorandom signal. An analysis of the simulation results has revealed the relationship of the carrier frequency and primitive polynomial order to the autocorrelation function. The length of the pseudorandom scanning signal and the principle for the choice of the amplitude are also given in this paper.
