Abstract With a practical example, this paper deals with the determination of the position of an underwater magnetic object by means of magnetic exploration. The utilization of the horizontal position of the maximal local magnetic anomaly reduced to the pole as the horizontal position of an underwater magnetic object and the estimation of the depth of the object's center by means of interpolating cut constitute two feasible methods. The results obtained by the two methods agree well with the real position of a magnetic object.
