This paper sums up in brief the basic principle of multibeam sounding technique and, exemplified by some typical marine exploration cases, describes the application of this technique to such fields as marine environmental exploration and fill-in-the-sea engineering in Hong Kong. Some practical experience gained in applying this technique to engineering is also given in this paper.
