Abstract In order to meet the urgent demand of improving the resolution ratio of ground penetrating radar in practical application, this paper has introduced the fractal technology of the fBm model into the processing of the GPR data, and established the fBm model of the GPR. Adopting SRA method, we calculated the fractal section of GPR. The computational example shows that it is an extremely effective method for the extraction of high resolution information from GPR section, and its results are better than those from the routine processing method. In addition, we used this technology to tackle two engineering examples and attained fairly satisfactory result.
