Abstract To meet the demand of the large-scale high-precision gravity survey inthe neritic area, this paper first puts forward the requirements for the planposition and navigation precision in the gravity survey and, in comparison withseveral sorts of medium-range and long-range radiolocation systems, describesthe feasibility and economic benefits of the GPS technique. The paper then introduces the major technical indexes and test results ofthe GPS receiver that we have employed and, using part of measured resultsobtained from the working area, further illustrates tl1e advtantages of GPS.Finally, some improving measures are put forward to raise its location pre-cision arid expand its application.
