Detection of unexploded ordnance based on normalized source strength

    • The detection of unexploded ordnance (UXO) is a significant research topic in environmental and engineering geophysics. Magnetic survey serves as an economical, efficient, safe, and reliable geophysical method. However, current methods for UXO detection based on magnetic survey remain limited by low automation levels and significant redundant solutions. To address these limitations, this study proposed a UXO detection method for high-precision magnetic data based on the normalized source strength (NSS) theory. In the proposed method, magnetic anomaly data were first transformed into NSS data. Subsequently, an improved Euler deconvolution technique was applied to the NSS data to estimate the spatial location and structural index of the field source. Model tests and field data processing results demonstrate that the proposed method achieved a high level of automation and fewer redundant solutions.
