THE APPLICATION OF THE 3D GPR METHOD TO MEASURING THE DEPTH OF ARCTIC SUMMER SEA ICE AND ANALYZING ITS UNDERSIDE MORPHOLOGY
WANG Bang-bing, SUN Bo, TIAN Gang, GUO Jing-xue, WANG Da-li
    Geophysical and Geochemical Exploration. 2007, 31 (3): 189-192.
    Abstract   HTML   PDF (613KB) ( 788 )

Sea ice plays an important role in the global climate system. The authors combined 3D GPR with drilling during China's second national Arctic research expedition. The interface of ice and sea water can be recognized clearly from the GPR section, consistent with the drilling result. 3D GPR Cube illustrates distinctly the underside morphology and the spatial spreading of inner structure of the Arctic sea ice. After additional calculation, some parameters, such as the upper and bottom surface areas and the volume of sea-ice, can be figured out and then serve as on-the-spot checkout data for the remote sensing and the data simulator. These data also provide the evidence and proof for the study of the formation mechanism and the course of dynamic effect of the sea ice.

ELECTRIC CONDUCTIVITY CHARACTERISTICS OF BASEMENT TECTONICS IN SIMAO BASIN, YUNNAN PROVINCE
    LIU Jun-chang, XU Xin-xue
    Geophysical and Geochemical Exploration. 2007, 31 (3): 193-197.
    Abstract   HTML   PDF (1163KB) ( 745 )

Magnetotelluric (MT) data were obtained at 1007 sites along 21 profiles in the basin of Simao areas. Using data of effective apparents, the author got the inversion result of each line. The new analysis and realization of Simao Basin were based on magnetotelluric sounding. Jurassic (Pz) and metamorphic rocks (Upper Pt) characterized by lower apparents serve as indicator layers for the division of the structure layer. Except for the central uplifted area, the dual structure has the surface character of gradual descending from margin to center along the EW direction. In addition, the basement tectonics of Pz has some inheritance relation with the crystalline basement. Nevertheless, the limits and positions of local undulations show remarkable differences due to multi-stage tectonic movement.

    LIU Yong-chun, WENG Ji-chang, BAN Yi-hong, GUO Rui, WANG Wen-juan, DIAO Ai-guo, FU Zhi-guo
    Geophysical and Geochemical Exploration. 2007, 31 (3): 205-210.
    Abstract   HTML   PDF (1432KB) ( 852 )

An analysis of geochemical characteristics of the Wangpingxigou large-size lead-zinc deposit in Ruyang of Henan Province reveals that soil geochemical exploration is an effective means in search for lead-zinc deposits. The main economic lead-zinc ore bodies are on the whole confined within the outer margin of the Pb, Zn, Ag and Cu composite anomaly. Where the Pb values and Zn values of the ore-forming parent rocks are 2.5 times and 2 times higher than their respective Tu Hefei's and Venogradov's values of intermediate rocks, they can be regarded as the primary anomalies favorable for ore prospecting.

    Geophysical and Geochemical Exploration. 2007, 31 (3): 256-260.
    Abstract   HTML   PDF (632KB) ( 739 )

Based on systematic geochemical and synthetic analyses of oxides of the GS loesses on the northern slope of the Dabie Mountain, this paper deals with geochemical features of oxides and movement regularity of paleoclimate of this area in Middle Pleistocene. The total amount of silicon, aluminum and iron reaches 85% in that area, and hence the authors hold that the climate has been mainly wet and hot from Middle Pleistocene till now in this area. From the distribution characteristics and movement regularity of oxides,it can be concluded that this area has experienced alternately eight times of warm and wet climate and the same times of dry and cold climate since Middle Pleistocene.Analyses of the ratios of oxides reveal that this area has experienced repeated remarkable changes from dry and cold to warm and wet, accompanied by several cycles of formation degree, eluviation and chemical weathering of soils.

THE APPLICATION OF THE RAYLEIGH EXPLORATION TECHNIQUE TO THE GEOTECHNICAL ENGINEERING EXPLORATION
XIE Zhao-hui, ZHONG He, CHEN Chang-yan
    Geophysical and Geochemical Exploration. 2007, 31 (3): 279-282.
    Abstract   HTML   PDF (1733KB) ( 652 )

The difference in the velocity of underground media elastic waves is closely related to the geotechnical mechanism characteristics of the media, and the Rayleigh wave velocity is very close to its shear wave velocity. Therefore, the application of the Rayleigh wave exploration technique to the stratification of the underground media has its obvious advantages. In the initial stage of the geotechnical engineering exploration, the Rayleigh wave technique can be used to divide strata and geological structures which have evident differences, whereas in the detailed exploration stage, this technique can be employed to detect the bedrock buried depth and the fill thickness. The application results are satisfactory.
