Based on tests conducted in recent years. the anchors advance a new method forexploration of oil and gas fields with soil-adsorbed hydrogen sulfide as an index. Combiningthis method with phase state hydrocarbon method and self-potential method, the authorsobtained satisfactory results over some known oil and gas fields. In oil and gas accumulations, there are large quantities of hydrogen sulfide gases and sultur-bearing organic compounds. When oil and gas approach the surface through vertical micropercolation, sulfide gasesalso reach such place. In the process of migration, a series of complicated chemical changesof hydrogen sulfide gasas and sulfur-bearing compounds would tabe place under the action ofbacteria and oxygen, forming for example sulfate. Nevertheless, tests have proved that innear-surface soils over oil and gas accumulations there remain obvious anomalies of hydrogensulfide gases, which assume anular, semi-anaular, sheet and zonal shapes. The anomlies agreewith the underlying oil and gas accumulations or fault structures, suggesting that hydrogensulfide survey may be used in the exploration of oil and gas fields. Moreover, these anomaliesare in good accord with phase state hydrogen anomalies and self-potential anomalies, with allof these anomalies appearing over the oil and gas accumulations. All this shows that theintegrated utilization of these three methods would yield more satisfactory rosults.
