Abstract:For understanding the effect of different grid spacing intervals of DEM on terrain correction accuracy of the triangular-element method, the rectangular method and the average elevation rectangular method, the authors calculated the terrain correction values of 450 stations with different grid intervals of DEM. A comparative study shows that the effect of DEM grid spacing on terrain correction accuracy of the triangular-element method is insignificant, and things are just the opposite for the rectangular method. The authors also divided terrain correction ranges into 10 intervals and calculated the corresponding terrain correction values. Statistics show that the 45% and 30% residuals are mainly distributed in the ranges of 50~200 m and 200~500 m, and it is therefore proposed that the elevation data grid density in the ranges of 50~200 m and 200~500 m should be increased so as to increase the terrain correction accuracy.
